Bead Soup: Thinking

I have been thinking and looking at my soup. This is so out of my comfort zone I am currently stumped. I've sorted through goodies in my own stash but it feels like I am translating Chinese.

  1. How funny this is to me - as I am also in this state with my soup !! We have been partnered well in that we are incredibly challenged by our different styles in the soups that we exchanged - and that is the true point of Bead Soup. I chatted with a few of my beading buddies who do similar work to mine for ideas about getting started with my soup - and they opened a whole word of possibilities to me....but I did have to think way outside my comfort zone. I hope you get some wonderful suggestions that will translate the soup for you <3

  2. Hi, Billi! I hope I can help you with some suggestions and ideas. I’m a first time Bead Soup Blog Party-goer but if I had received this beautiful set of beads (they’re definitely my style), it still would be a challenge as I couldn’t use all of them and love the final result (too much diversity). Your partner has sent you a wide variety of beads but you don’t have to use all the beads or most of the beads (remember the rules). I’ve noticed you prefer using opaque beads and designing monochromatic jewellery. Red (orange) and green are complementary colours but it can be difficult to make them go together nicely. About the focal bead, I think you don’t have to use it as it is, that is, you could try incorporating some of your own handmade beads. Make the best of everything and be creative. Ana

    1. Thank you, Ana. I appreciate the suggestions. I'm leaving my soup on my work table while I work in my studio. I did go through my own collection of tiny polymer clay beads I had stashed...too small to use. In my work! LOL

  5. I felt the same way when i received my soup last time (it was my first time to participate) I took it on as a challenge and dug out a big stack of beading books and magazines, browsed through pinterest and finally just "went for it" I really enjoyed being pushed out of my comfort zone and made it a point to try and use everything that my partner sent and loved the results. I am sure you will be inspired to create something wonderful! Annita

    1. Thanks, Annita. I am busy mixing color to have some polyclay to use...maybe. :-)

  6. Don't worry, just live with them for a while and something will come! Remember that you don't have to use everything in the same piece. Branch out and use the beads that speak to you!

    1. Thank you. Living with my soup has started to trigger lots of ideas. Made some beads to compliment the colors...which I love. Olive green and sienna are two of my favorites...I wear those colors often...I have green eyes.

  7. You seem like a creative parson so just let yourself go. Put 2 or 3 kinds of beads together and see if you can envision anything. If not put a couple of different kinds together. Just play with them and you will figure it out.

  8. Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Since you are in the second reveal at least you will have some time to look at some of the other blogs and ideas. To be honest, while the soup I received is very beautiful, it is not the elements I normally work with. But that is all part of the fun! I like the challenge of coming up with something outside of my comfort zone. Good luck I know you will come up with something great!
